Kinter’s Special Talent

Ty Kinter’s life of singing began at a very young age.

“I started singing because of my mother,” said Kinter,” She introduced me to music and performing, and I grew up to love it.”

As a child, Kinter, grew up actively singing in church.

Kinter, now a senior, sang in the Keystone Christian Education Association All State Choir his 9th and 10th grade years at Mt. Carmel. Kinter also sings in general chorus at Southmoreland as well as Highlander Choir, Honors Choir, District Choir, Region Choir, All-Star Choir as well as his church’s Christmas Cantata and the church’s praise team.

“You can sing a note in a million different ways,” said Kinter, “but only a select few can truly reflect how you feel.”

Kinter isn’t 100 percent certain where he is going to college yet, but Cairn University in Langhorne Manor in Philadelphia, and Houghton in New York are at the top of his list.

“Both colleges have a fun Christian environment,” said Kinter, “Cairn has a nice music program, and Houghton has a fantastic music program that is in the top 4 percent of the country.”

Kinter will major in music education. He says that teaching “comes naturally” to him and that education really fits his “skill sets.”  Kinter says that he would “love” to be a professional soloist but says that it is “very difficult” to reach even for the most talented of singers.

“Education is a more dependable job opportunity,” said Kinter.

Kinter has received Scholarships for his SAT scores as well as a $1,500 scholarship from the Westmoreland County Music Educators Association.

“My mom is an inspiration to why I sing,” said Kinter. “I love her dearly, and she supports me wherever I go.”

Kinter is also a volunteer with the Scottdale Soccer Club. He is currently the coach of a U-12 boys travel team.
