Huff named prom king, McKnight prom queen

The attendees of Southmoreland’s prom May 6, waited anxiously as everyone crowded together on the dance floor to hear the announcement of prom king and queen.
“And this year’s prom king is…Mr. (Chris) Hixson,” joked his wife, Mrs. Jenna Hixson.
The crowd even more anxious now waited another prolonged 10 seconds to hear who the actual king was.
“The real king is…Matt Huff,” Mrs. Hixson said enthusiastically.
His friends and classmates cheered loudly for him as he parted the crowd, walking through the center to receive his crown.
“Huffy D, Huffy D,” chanted his friends as everyone else began to follow.
“I was shocked that my name was called,” said Huff. “It was really nice of everyone to cheer for me and for me to see how much support I get from everyone in our school.”
Following the announcement of prom king was the announcement of prom queen.
“A girl who is beautiful on the inside and out…Kacee McKnight,” cheerfully announced Mrs. Hixson.
Again the crowd began to cheer enthusiastically as Kacee received her crown.
“It was exciting because everyone around me was very happy for me,” said McKnight.
Prom king and queen was new to Southmoreland this year.
“We wanted to do something different and enjoyable for prom this year,” said junior class officer Alli Sherbondy.
Each student who attended the prom got to vote from five girls and six guys after only the senior classes voted.
“I didn’t know this was the first year we had a prom king and queen,” said sophomore Hannah Corvin, “I think we should continue to have one every year.”
