Stone reaches 1,000 career points

Junior Brandon Stone became one of two of Southmoreland’s basketball players to reach a goal of scoring 1,000 career points this school year. He joined senior Olivia Porter, this being the first time in Southmoreland history to have more than one player reach 1,000 points for a career in the same season.
“I was ecstatic when I knew I reached the milestone,” said Stone.
Stone entered the season setting this goal knowing he had a good chance of reaching 1,000 points and determined to make his goal a reality. He spent countless hours in the gym over the summer improving his game in all aspects, working on shooting, dribbling, and post moves so he could “score in a variety of ways to make it easier.”
Because the game was an away game when Stone reached this achievement ,there were not many Southmoreland fans present. but Stone was glad to hear the Burgettstown fans cheer and clap for him when it was announced.
“It’s something I can remember and tell my children,” said Stone. “I’ll always remember how and where I did it.”
At the Scotties’ next home game, Stone was awarded a plaque and recognized for his accomplishment.
Stone notes that his family and coaches have helped him through his basketball career so far.
“They all push me and their support means so much to me,” said Stone.
Although Stone has reached an accomplishment that not many to walk through the doors of Southmoreland have done, he still has goals he is striving to reach. His main goal for the team is to win the section and compete in playoffs, along with a personal goal of being named to any of the all-state teams.
