Bunner crowned homecoming queen

Participating in over 30 school activities, Briana Bunner constantly has a full plate. From being class president and National Honor Society president to her involvement in numerous other clubs, like Youth Education Association and Reading Buddies, to her participation in three sports, Bunner keeps busy.

“I enjoy giving back to the community and making other people smile,” said Bunner.

One of her favorite memories is when members of Reading Buddies wrote and published two books, which they then read to the children at the primary center.

“It brought happiness to my heart to see the kids so intrigued with reading,” said Bunner.

As the only girl on homecoming court that isn’t a cheerleader, she was ecstatic to follow in the footsteps of Trisha Bungard, the 2015 queen, and Taylor Milslagle last year as a representative for the volleyball team on homecoming court.

“It was thrilling to hear my entire volleyball team and my friends screaming and cheering for me,” said Bunner of the night in October she was crowned queen.

Bunner was happy to share this experience with two of her closest friends, Kylee Tkacs and Kylee Wisilosky.

“All of these ladies are good friends of mine that I’m thankful to have shared that experience with,” said Bunner. “Each one of these girls were deserving of the crown and I truly thought it could have been any of us.”

Bunner greatly appreciates that her classmates gave her the opportunity to experience homecoming court with her friends and that they crowned her the 2015 Southmoreland Homecoming Queen.

“Excitement ran through my body, my heart was racing and I could barely hold back my smile when my name was announced,” said Bunner. “Once I got to Trisha, a long time friend, I was able to relax, because she comforted me.”

Bunner is excited that she got to carry this on for the volleyball team and share that memorable moment with her former teammate Bungard.

“I am honored to carry this on for the volleyball team,” said Bunner. “My girls were my biggest supporters and it also meant a lot that Trisha was able to crown me being that she was a member of the volleyball team.”

Bunner is looking foward to continuing to enjoy the rest of her senior year and hopes it will be filled with more amazing experiences like this.

After her senior year, Bunner plans to further her academic and athletic careers at Robert Morris University next fall. She plans to study Sports Psychology and Sports Therapy and is continuing to play softball for RMU.
