Band trip canceled because of school district budget cuts

Every year, the juniors and seniors in concert band take a field trip. This year the band teacher, Mrs. Jamie Gore, wanted to take the students to New York, but due to budget cuts she wasn’t able to make that happen.

“I wanted to take juniors and seniors to see a Broadway musical in New York,” said Mrs. Gore. “I requested approval from the school to allow us to go, but they said transportation costs were too high. The students would have to pay a lot of money to go.”

The band and chorus classes went to New York last year to see “Mean Girls” the musical. The students were excited to enjoy another educational experience in New York.

“Last year I wasn’t able to go to New York because of financial reasons. I was looking forward to finally going this year,” said senior Jazmine Frost. “It’s upsetting that I know I  missed out on such an amazing opportunity. I just hope they’ll be able to go back to New York in the future.”

Although the students weren’t able to go to New York, Mrs. Gore was able to get approval for them to go to Pittsburgh at the end of February to see “Phantom of the Opera.”

“Mrs. Gore was extremely upset when she heard we wouldn’t be able to go to New York, but I know that she’s still going to do her best to make this a nice trip for us,” Frost said.
