Students participate in local theater group

A local theatre group based in Connellsville called  “C Glee” is offering an opportunity in the arts of musical theatre to students all across this area, and in our own school.

“(C Glee) is a musical theater arts adventure,” said owner Gayle Cuneo. “It was created to provide an experience for those interested in developing their singing, dancing, and acting.”

Cuneo used to teach musical theater at Connellsville Area High School, where she started C Glee in 2005 as an extracurricular activity.

“After years of my experience teaching musical theater and then retiring from public education, I decided to begin a community group,” said Cuneo. “I knew that it was a positive concept and that there were many people, of all ages, that would benefit from this experience.”

C Glee consists of 4 groups: Adults, Teens, Kids, and C Glee Bellas. Several Southmoreland High School students are involved in the teen group and the Bellas.

Senior Melanie Gillot is part of the teen group, and the Bellas and is very pleased with her experience at C Glee.

“I love the positive atmosphere, and the chance to better myself as a performer,” said Gillot, “The first time I performed, I did a solo for the organization in the ‘Halloween Hullaballo’, and most recently played Mulan in C Glee’s first ever musical, ‘Disney’s Mulan Jr.”

Gillot’s Sister, freshman Chloe Gillot, is also part of C Glee.

“(C Glee) is something I love being able to do,” said Gillot, “ I never knew I would be doing the things I do. I just love being able to go to a place where we are like family and not be judged.”

“I’ve known ‘C’ (Cuneo) for several years because I’ve taken voice lessons from her and her daughter, Cait” said sophomore Abby Whitlatch. “She gives us so many opportunities to learn and shows us how to stay on the right path of life.”

There are many Southmoreland students in the high school, that are apart of C Glee and all of its programs all year round.

C Glee takes place at the Carnegie Library of Connellsville. Anyone who is interested in joining C Glee can sign up at their weekly sessions. Teens meet on Fridays from 3:30-4:45 p.m., while adults meet Saturdays from noon-1 p.m. The C Glee Bellas rehearse on Mondays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Cuneo Studio in Connellsville. Bellas are only accepted by audition.

There is no fee for registration but there is a $10 tuition fee for each C Glee session attended.

Upcoming events include, the C Glee November Talent Showcase on Nov. 18 at 2:00 p.m. Cost for attendance is $10 at the door. In December, the teens and adults will present “A ‘C Glee’ Christmas Carol.”
