Students attend art institute

Southmoreland High School’s very own The Future is Mine (TFIM) club recently took a field trip to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Students had the opportunity to tour the college and have open discussions with current staff and students.

“I’m always thinking about college and my future,” said sophomore Morgan Conty. “It’s something that I look forward to, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming; there is so much to know about it.”

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh offers a wide array of majors for students interested in things such as culinary arts, graphic design, film, etc. Although this school is different from the standard community college or university, it is still beneficial to students planning to further their education after graduation. By visiting this school, the TFIM club members were able to receive general knowledge about life in college that they may not have previously known.

“After attending the Art Institute I learned that you don’t have to have your whole future planned out when you first begin college,” said Anna Collins, sophomore TFIM member. “You can try new things and even change your mind more than once.”

The TFIM club learned that college is where an adolescent is able to “blossom” into an adult.
