Hernley enlists in Marine Corps

Joining the Marines to train and fight for our country is an honor of itself,  but becoming a third generation Marine must be more than an honor and something special.

Senior Brenden Hernley will embark on a journey of following his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps in becoming a third generation Marine.

“My dad (Randy) influenced me to join,” said Hernley.

Hernley decided follow through with the decision wanting to carry on his family’s tradition in hopes of learning experience and what the Marines are all about. The tradition goes back to Brenden’s father and grandfather.

“I’m passing down the family tradition and hoping (my child) will join the Marines,” said Hernley. “ I wanted to earn the title (of being a Marine), learn more discipline, respect, and get into better shape.”

During Hernley’s four-year tenure in the Marines, He will be positioned to a specific job as well as continuing to be trained. He has already started little training to help basic training be a lot better by going to physical training at the recruiting center as well as going on runs and working out.

“I will be a military police officer, which usually stays on the base,” said Hernley.

After four years, if all goes well, Brenden hopes to have the opportunity to serve more time to gain as much experience as possible.

“I definitely would serve more time,” says Hernley. “I’m going to see how it goes before I make my decision.”

Hernley made his decision last year and will leave on July 11.
