Mr. David Keefer

David Keefer is a hard working man who is strong, confident, and dedicated. He is happy for his life decisions and wouldn’t change a thing.

Since a young age, Keefer knew he had a great work ethic. Keefer learned this because his father was a steel worker, knowing this affected his effort in being a hard worker. Keefer grew up as a blue-collar, middle class boy with four older brother and sisters.

Keefer was a determined teenager. He knew what he wanted to do when he got out of high school.

“My goal was to join the marine core, get funding for college, go to college, get a job, start a family, and make a decent living.” said Keefer.

Keefer is a combat veteran; he spent six years in the marine core while active and under reserve. He served in the Persian Gulf War from 1990-1991 in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia.

“Once I left the military, I felt as though I had learned I could take on a lot of responsibility, and I was prepared to find a job requiring just that.” said Keefer.

When Keefer left, he wanted to either join some type of law enforcement or become a teacher.

Keefer has a passion for social studies, history in specific, so he chose that teaching was the job he wanted. Keefer has been teaching for 21 years, he has only worked at Southmoreland all 21 years and he loves working at Southmoreland. Over the years, he has often worked lunch duty, during all of his years he has learned not to dwell on things, this was a lesson he learned from the kids. Many of times, he had to tear apart two students fighting over more than likely nothing. But since it happened so often, he is used to it and has learned to forgive and forget.

“I feel fortunate that I do have my job. The job market for education isn’t exactly wide open; there are a lot of people out there who have education degrees and don’t have a job, so I am fortunate. I feel grateful to Southmoreland for hiring Me.” said Keefer.

Thanks to Southmoreland hiring Keefer at their school, he was able to earn money to buy a home and start a family. Keefer lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife and daughter, Bobbi and Gabbi Keefer. David and Bobbi have been married for almost sixteen years.

Keefer has a passion for sports, as well. He often spends his time golfing and hunting, but he enjoys all sports. When Keefer was in grade school, he played both baseball and football for fun in his spare time. Football was his favorite sport out of the bunch. Keefer’s love for golf is common in his family, both his wife and daughter like golf, too.

Keefer has been coaching longer than he has been teaching. Keefer has been coaching Football at Mount Pleasant Area High School for 22 years. He believes his athletic passion has rubbed off on his daughter. Since the age of five, Gabbi Keefer has been interested in sports. She currently plays golf and basketball for Mount Pleasant High School.

Keefer has had a great life and loves his current situation; he plans to continue working at Southmoreland until retirement is an option.

“I wouldn’t change a thing.” said Keefer.
