Every year, the American Theatre Wing hosts the Tony Awards, where they present awards to those who excel in Broadway theater. Although this prestigious event may be for the stars in New York, a similar style show can be found in our own backyard.

The Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale is hosting its 11th annual Tottie Awards, a Tony-inspired awards show. Named after Marilyn “Tottie” Kiefer, a founding member and patron of the theater, the ceremony presents trophies to voted “favorite” musicals, plays, and actors of the yearly season.

The show also features performances from musicals from the season; this season’s musicals being Hair, The Fantasticks, Beauty and the Beast, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Catch Me If You Can, and The Addams Family. It will also feature a performance from the first musical of the new season, Cabaret.

Brad Geyer, the theater’s board chairman and president, is excited to present the Totties to the theater stage, especially with host Dottie Davis, one of the theater’s oldest actors and patrons.

“Sticking to tradition, Dottie Davis will be our emcee for the 11th year,” Geyer said. “We are so blessed to have her back.”

Geyer also loves how the ceremony “brings everyone back together.”

“This time of the year, everyone gathers in our building at the same time,” Geyer said. “Eleven shows come together to congratulate each other on the wonderful art we have produced.”

The 11th Annual Tottie Awards will be at the Geyer Performing Arts center January 20 at 7:30 p.m.
