Griffiths, Mauro competing in state wrestling tournament

March 9 marks the final leg of the wrestling season for two Southmoreland wrestlers, sophomore Ryan Mauro and junior Tyler Griffiths, as they start their battle for state gold at the Giant Center in Hershey. Griffiths, after wrestling 138 pounds most of the season, has dropped down a weight class and will be battling it out in 132 pounds in the PIAA tournament. Mauro will remain at 220 pounds in hope to clinch his spot on the medal stand.

Griffiths has a first round bye, advancing to round two to take on Colton Babcock of Benton. The winner of that bout will advance to round three to take on an opponent that has yet to be determined.

Mauro will start one round battling to get to round two. His first round opponent will be Cole Fuller of Western Wayne. The winner of their bout will advance to round two to take on Cole Nye of Bishop McDevitt.

Broadcasting of the state tournament is available on msasports.net.
