When Southmoreland running back Ronnie Robinson looks in the mirror, he sees an “average teenager.”

“I’m just a 16 year old pre-occupied teenager who likes to hangout and play sports,” said Robinson.

His performance at the first two football games of the season were anything but normal, however.

Robinson wowed the crowd with his speed and had two back-to-rack 100-yard rushing games (121 and 101) along with scoring his first varsity touchdown.

“Scoring my first touchdown was great,”said Robinson.” Even though we were losing, it still hyped me up and kept me going.”

Robinson also gives credit to the line when it comes to him running the ball and being able to make his first touchdown.

“The line does a great job of blocking,” said Robinson.” They all risk their bodies for me to get us a touchdown.”

Things haven’t always been in the sophomore running backs favor though as he reflects of his freshman season as a 2nd string running back.

“I fumbled the ball at the Derry 1-yard line” on Southmoreland’s home field, ”Robinson said.” They recovered the ball and ran  it the whole way back for a touchdown.”

While Robinson got easily frustrated with his performance in the game, he used that to his advantage to motivate him for his sophomore season with the Scotties. Competition was a factor diving into the 2016 varsity season.

“When Jesse (Yourish) first came onto the team, I was told he was a threat and could take my position,”said Robinson.” He did start the first game against South Park, but I worked hard to get my varsity spot back.”

Robinson said his mother has been very supportive.

“I always tell Ronnie to do his best no matter what gets thrown at him,”said his mother, Robin Robinson.”I can’t even begin to explain the feeling of watching him play.”

Not only was Robinson able to accomplish back-to-back 100-yard games, but he also made his first two varsity touchdowns against Charleroi.

“Scoring my first touchdown was great,” Robinson said.”But getting two touchdowns in one game gave me a feeling of confidence.”

Robinson hopes to continue his career in college.

“If I got a full (scholarship), it would allow me to help my mother out and give back to her for everything she’s done for me,” said Robinson. “She does so much for me.”

While the stadium is full of many supporters for the Scotties, Robinson knows he has one true fan in the stands cheering him on all the time.

“My mom is my number one fan,” he said. “She comes to all my games to watch me, and it feels good knowing she is proud of me and supports me.”
