Matheny enjoys vo-tech, ‘excited’ to be on homecoming court

After devoting her high school years to her participation at Vo-Tech, Morgan Matheny gets to enjoy being on Homecoming Court her senior year.

Matheny has attended vo-tech since her sophomore year focusing on cosmetology. Vo-tech has enabled Matheny to explore something she had been passionate about for awhile.

“I’ve wanted to do hair since the seventh grade,” said Matheny. “My mom’s friend was a cosmetologist, so it just seemed right to go into the class.”

She hopes to follow in the footsteps of her mom’s friend. Matheny is involved in Skills USA in CWCTC (Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center) where she plans on graduating from. However, she intends on attending Laurel Business Institute to get a degree in massage therapy.

Aside from all of her work in school, Matheny also does multiple activities with her friends.

“I also take part in gymnastics at the YMCA and play softball for Greater Scottdale Girls Softball League (GSGSL),” said Matheny.

Matheny appreciates the opportunity her classmates and friends gave her to be a candidate for the 2016 Homecoming queen.

“I’m so excited to be on the court with such an amazing group of girls,” said Matheny. She added that she “is happy to share this experience” with one of her close friends, Kaitlyn Walch.
