Girls basketball team finishes with 18-6 record
The Southmoreland girl’s basketball team qualified for the WPIAL playoffs for the first time since 2007, completing the season with a record of 18-6 and undefeated at home.
After winning a first round game, the Scotties lost 61-42 to Blackhawk in the WPIAL Class 4A girls basketball quarterfinals at Moon. The girls played a hard game but in the end, the Cougars used a strong start to get the win.
Blackhawk kept a steady lead through the first half, leading 29-11 at the break.
“I am really proud of the girls and the season we had,” said coach Brian Pritts. “The team worked really hard, and we were rewarded by qualifying for the WPIAL playoffs. The girls loved what they were doing and who they were with. They served each other and had one another’s backs, and they truly cared about what they were doing and their teammates.”
Coach Pritts said that he hopes to build on this season’s success.
“They have set the bar high, and I believe they will want to raise it even higher next year.,” he said. “We have a lot of quality and experienced players set to return next year. The basketball program is in a very good place right now, and I am blessed to be a part of it.”
