Beistel wins gold to become Southmoreland’s first state wrestling champion
Southmoreland has now joined the club of having a state wrestling champion to represent their school.
Jacob Beistel on Saturday won his final match of the PIAA tournament by a score of 3-2.
He finished his career with 150 wins and became an undefeated state champion, defeating Zach Stafford of Cambridge Springs.
“It feels amazing knowing that I brought home the first (state wrestling) gold medal for Southmoreland,” Beistel said from Hershey moments after making school history.” It shows that my hard work and dedication paid off. It was also amazing to see all the support I got throughout the weekend.”
Beistel finishes his final season with a 41-0 record. His state title completes a high school career that includes a runner-up finish a year ago and a fifth place medal as a sophomore. His career record stands at 151-18. His coach is Ryan Shaw.
