Student council sponsors annual Make-A-Wish fundraiser

Every year student council raises money for the Make-a-Wish-Foundation by holding an event called Deck It Up and Snow Court, the day before students go on Christmas break.

The event consists of teams of six to eight people who play in a tournament with a premade bracket. The games last all day in the gymnasium, along with refreshments in the cafeteria provided by student council for the members of the different teams.

After the two finalist teams battle it out on the court, the winning team is presented with a trophy and medals.

The Snow Court will then be announced. This year, there are nine boys and nine girls. Then the King and Queen will be announced and presented with their crowns. This year the members of the snow court are as follows: Alyssa Gaborko, Lauryn Lubecki, Megan King, Tessa Hamborsky, Ashley Matheny, Madison Formato, Charleigh Bloom, Toni Brayo, Tessa Hamborsky, Dalton Anderson, Chase Calhoun, Zak Holoman, Ryan Szolek, Travis Sipple, Cole Leasher, Dylan Opalinski, Dakota Coffman, and Chad Miller.

These two fundraisers have raised a significant amount of money every year for the foundation, and the money is given to local children who are currently in the Make-a-Wish-Foundation.

“It’s nice to know the money that is collected for sign ups ($5 per teammate) and the money that has accumulated in our cans, will be donated to kids who deserve to have their wishes come true,” said senior member of Snow Court Alyssa Gaborko. “We’re all really hoping to grant one wish with the money we raise.”
