Junior Dakota Coffman anxiously awaited to hear the results of the auditions for who will hold the roles of drum major and commanding officer for the marching band’s 2018-2019 season.
“I felt pretty nervous. I woke up before my alarm that morning just because my stomach hurt so bad,” said Coffman.
Marching band director Mr. Shawn Harris then entered the band room with a sheet of paper that revealed the results.
“This is the hardest part of the season for me and the staff… no matter what the results would be, just let it sink in,” said Mr. Harris, “If anyone wants to discuss the results they’re more than welcome to, but just think about it for a while.”
The results were then posted on the whiteboard in the front of the room April 30.

Commanding officers: Dylan Opalinski and Morgan Brown
“It was a surge of emotion,” Coffman explained. “I have wanted this position since 9th grade, and I had been practicing for my audition for months.
“I turned around to my friends and immediately hugged them,” Coffman remembered.
Coffman is optimistic about and prepared for the upcoming marching band season.
“I’m really excited to start the season alongside two of my best friends,” he said.
