Adams resigns as head football coach

After seven years with Southmoreland High School, head football coach Mark Adams has formally resigned from the position with mixed emotions from people in the district.

Adams’ letter of resignation was accepted at board’s reorganization meeting Dec. 4.

“He felt it was time to move on,” said Mr. Charlie Swink, athletic director. “He said he’d miss the kids here and he really enjoyed it. But a coach knows when it’s time to give someone else a chance, and that when one door closes another opens.”

Coach Adams could not be reached for comment.

“He’s been a coach for seven years, Mr. Swink said. “He’s been the head coach for five of those years.”

Coach Adams’s record as head coach has been 12-45.

Mr. Swink said the administration will come up with a plan of action and a group of people to begin the search for a new head football coach. Once the new head coach is hired, he will submit to the board a list of prospective assistant coaches. Those individuals will then be interviewed and hired to their positions.
