Frye places first at Olympics of the Arts Competition

Keera Frye first stepped on the competition floor when she was just 4 years old. That is when she discovered her first love: Dance.

Last month, Frye attended the Olympics of the Arts singing and dance competition, where she got first place for her lyrical solo to the song “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.”

As Frye waited to hear how she did and where she placed, she was anxious, but very confident in the dance she had performed.

“I was excited to see what the judges thought of my performance,” said Frye, a senior. “But I was very proud of the way I performed and I thought I had a pretty good chance for first.”

Frye was happy to go to the competition and is very happy that she got first place, because she got to show local people and multiple people from Southmoreland High school what she loves to do.

Frye said dance “means everything” to her. Most of Frye’s earliest childhood memories revolve around dance, and it has always been part of her life.

“It has helped me to deal with many things and I love doing it and I never want to stop,” said Frye.

“I was happy to go to the competition and that I was given the opportunity to show people what I love to do and that is dance,” said Frye. “It was nice to get to show people I go to school with and especially Mrs. Hixson, because she had never seen me dance before and she was very excited about it.”
