Bump It Up raises money for Make-A-Wish

To celebrate Christmas and, more importantly, Christmas break, student council organized and sponsored the high school’s annual Bump It Up volleyball tournament in December. The tournament was a face off between 22 teams in which they played 5-minute long volleyball games. The event was sponsored by Student Council who organized the day and supplied food and drinks for all the players. All proceeds from the event – which exceeded $1,000 – were donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Student council president Elise Proch spent the whole day making sure everything went smoothly.
“Bump It Up required a lot of work from the Student Council members and me,” Proch said. “Even though this came with a lot of stress, I’m happy that I could continue this Southmoreland tradition as well as creating an exciting day for the student body.”
The winning team of the day included Thomas Pisula, Michael Moresea, George Hillen, John Leighty, Zak Leighty, and Abbie Kubasky.
Along with volleyball, student council also revealed the winner for the Class of 2017 Snow King, and the court included 10 male students who each decorated an individual can in which students could donate money in order to declare a winner. This year’s Snow King was Matthew Huff.
Thomas Pisula was another student on the Snow King Court.
“I’m really glad that Matt won,” Pisula said. “I know that it meant more to him than it would to any of us.”
Throughout the entire day and all it’s events, student council raised over $1,200 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
