Huffman strives for her lifelong dream of music

Sophomore, Alison Huffman, is finally achieving a dream she’s chased since she was a young child. She is pursuing her passion in music and is working hard each day to becoming better at what she loves. It began in first grade when Huffman she asked her parents for her own drum set. When they got her one she “couldn’t believe it.”
“I would just beat on them and try to play to the music,” said Huffman.
In 5th grade, Huffman joined concert band to progress and excel in her drumming skills. She could “see herself getting better as the years went on.” When Huffman was in 7th grade she received her first “real” drum set.
A couple years ago, Huffman was asked by a friend to attend a church camp at Jumonville. When the experience came to an end, Huffman realized how much fun she had and soon after she looked into all the camps Jumonville provided. Among her search, she found they have a camp called “Rock the Mountain Music Camp.” After seeing that she “knew right away” where she was going the next year.
Later in the year she applied and was accepted into the camp. Upon her arrival, she met the dean, or the leader, of the camp, B.J. Collins. Collins influenced Huffman to continue her passion of drumming and also introduced her the keyboard.
After the camp, Collins kept in touch with Huffman, asking her to play on a couple different occasions. Huffman again received a call from Collins, who told her that he is participating in the United Methodist Conference this year in June and was asked if Huffman would be able to make an appearance and play with his band.
“It feels awesome. This will by far be the biggest crowd I have ever played in front of,” said Huffman. “It just feels great to be asked to do such a thing.”
Huffman is hoping for the best and that everything will “go as planned.” She is also hoping she will be asked to attend again next year, and “hopefully make it a yearly tradition.”
“I feel honored to do such a thing in front of so many people. I can’t wait for the day to come,” said Huffman.
