Beistel advances to state finals
After a close back and forth match in the state semi-finals, Southmoreland’s Jacob Beistel remains undefeated and on track to compete for state gold.
Beistel defeated Brylee Shumaker of Redbank Valley Friday with a solid 5-3. win
“It was a back and forth match that stayed interesting,”said Beistel.” It was close, but I stayed focused and remembered what I needed to do.”
He’s now set to wrestle Zach Stafford of Cambridge Springs Saturday in finals. Stafford has a current record of 27-6 while Beistel has a record of 32-0. Stafford also qualified for the finals with a 5-3 win.
“I have to do everything I did last year but better,” Beistel told the Tam O’Shanter Friday after his semi-final win. “It all comes down to (Saturday) for me.”
Finals begin at 5 p.m. Saturday. Beistel placed second a year ago and hopes to become Southmoreland’s first state wrestling champion.
