Camille Hunter believes that there is no dream beyond her grasp.
“Big dreams start with just one step, and every day I’m a step closer,” Hunter said.
Few high school teenagers have an opportunity to compete on a national level. But freshman Camille Hunter recently placed 8th in the Wodapolooza Crossfit Competition in Miami.
Wodapolooza is a 3-day event where 1500 athletes; 15 of those who are Camille’s age come together “to celebrate fitness and life in general.” Activities range from yoga to olympic lifting seminars and, as Hunter said, “to give every athlete the opportunity to push themselves as far as they physically can along with the joy of being around people who have the same passion.”Camille got to have that experience when she met the girls who were competing in her age division.
“They were all so nice and understood the sacrifices that have to made for crossfit,” Hunter said. “Meeting those girls was probably the best part of the entire event.”
Hunter has been training to go to Miami ever since she got an email saying she qualified to compete on a national level.
“I pushed myself to my limits in every workout to train for this huge event,” Hunter said
Her time in Miami consisted of constant working out and eating, but she enjoyed that way of life. Her trip led her to getting asked to be interviewed by the official sponser of the international competiton Crossfit Games, Reebok. They plan to do a full story on the teen for her accomplishments in Miami and in Pennsylvania, which could lead Hunter to have other companies sponsor her.
Hunter says the experience was “amazing.”
Later this month she is planning to go to the first part of the Crossfit Games Open.
At the Wodapolooza, Hunter placed 8th. She is now signed up for a smaller, local competition in Ohio in the near future.
