Marching band’s pep tune video goes viral

The amount of views on short and simple video left members of the Southmoreland
High School marching band stunned.
“I could not believe how many views it got,” said drum major Mackenzie Eicher. “I
thought it would only get 10.”
In October, the band performed the “John Cena pep tune” unrehearsed after school.
“It was just kind of a spur of the moment kind of thing,” said Kylie Diener.
Katie Kimmel, band president, woodwind section reader, and clarinet player, and Eicher put the song together.

Cena is a star wrestler for WWE.
The song was transposed one day when seniors Eicher and Kimmel got bored. Eicher wrote the percussion portion and Kimmel penned the woodwind and brass. “I just got bored one day so I transposed the parts,” said Kimmel. “Everyone loved doing it.”
The video was filmed by color guard member Michelle Gann.
“A lot of our friends at Mt Pleasant like to see the stuff we do,” said Gann.
The video was posted on Facebook by clarinet player Kelsey Romagnoli, and currently has over 3,300 views.
“I was really shocked,” said Kimmel.
Eicher who became drum major her senior year, says she’s not sure if the band will compose another pep tune.
Eicher became drum major through an audition.
“I always liked leader positions,” said Eicher.
After trying every sport in middle school and failing at them, Eicher signed up for marching band her freshman year of high school.

“I finally felt like I fit in,” said Eicher, “It’s such a welcoming community.”
The band responds well with Eicher being drum major.

“She creates a bond with the band so they listen to her,” said Gann.
Unfortunately, Eicher’s time in the band is coming to an end.
“I’m going to miss it, but I knew the time was coming,” said Eicher.
