Senior Night for Wrestling

Trailing behind senior, Brennan Coles, as he ran to the middle of the wrestling mat was an 11 year old Junior Olympic wrestler named Bryson Robinson. Before slapping hands with the rest of the team upon returning, Robinson watched Coles pass the piece of chain that he was holding in his hand onto the next wrestler.
“Colton told me that the chain is what unites them,” said Robinson, “If one of them breaks, they all break.”
Senior, Colton Zundel, is in his first year of high school wrestling for Southmoreland, but it only took him one night to make a lasting impression on Robinson.
“My favorite part of JO recognition night was hanging out with Colton,” said Robinson, “and getting to watch him and the other high schoolers wrestle from where the coaches sit.”
Monday’s match against Derry was not only Junior Olympic Wrestling Recognition Night but also Southmoreland Wrestling Senior Night. That made winning his match that night with a pin even more satisfying for Zundel.
“It felt amazing to have my last home match end in the best way possible,” said Zundel.
One of his fellow seniors, Brennan Coles, was also more than pleased with the way his match ended on Monday. Coles pinned his opponent from Derry in 20 seconds. The fastest pin of the night.
“I want my last high school match to be like that,” said Robinson’s younger brother who is also a Junior Olympic wrestler, XZavier Robinson, “Brennan’s a boss!”
Coles and Zundel’s pins were 12 of the points that contributed to Derry’s defeat at the boys’ last wrestling match under the lights in the SHS gym. Ever.
